Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz did it, and now it seems her look is back. Paraded on the catwalks of Burberry Prorsum, Anna Sui and Rodarte socks with heels is a flourishing trend. Come this spring we’ll all be loving our chunky wedges and lace up booties so why not add a bit of a difference to our outfits. If you’ve got the confidence and want to try this trend make sure you follow these simple rules:
- Stick to single coloured socks
- Juxtapose pretty and feminine with chunky and dramatic
- Ankle boots are best matched with black socks scrunched to the ankle
- Clogs look great with clean white socks scrunched to the ankle
- Knee high socks/tights – patterned or plain – compliment neutral shades and stand out designs

It seems that my latest obession has all to do with vintage. Looking at the stuff Tavi Gevinson wears for example, is quite … inspiring, I guess. I mean, you wouldn’t see me wearing clothes as flamboyant as her, but the way she puts items together is refreshing to see. What I like about her is that before she got heaps of big designer sponsors and all, she got her stuff cheap from op-shops and created her mish-mash style. I’m still a newbie when it comes to op-shops, though. I’ve read stuff on the internet that you’ve got to look really hard (and be rather patient too) when it comes to finding something really great, but my op-shop epiphany hasn’t arrived yet. Yet…
Anyway, MotelRocks has lauched a collection called Motel Vintage (pretty apt for this post no?) and the concept its quite interesting:
Super hot motel vintage pieces are now up for grabs! Countdown to Vintage Heaven! We add new Motel Vintage to the temptation timer every week.
Each day it is reduced in price but the conundrum is, will the temptation get the better of you? Remember, each item is a unique one off piece that won’t be listed again, so what will you do under pressure?
So it’s all about how much you want it and how much you’re willing to pay, which is basically supply and demand really. Economics, hmmm. Actually, given the high Australia dollar lately, it’s pretty worth it. Maybe I should plan my trip to France some time soon…

Rumi Neely of fashiontoast.com recently wore a pair of leather, yep, leather shorts, bought all the way in Tokyo. And what a great buy!
According to Jerico Tracy from Bazaar,
“Offering an alternative to pants or a skirt this winter, leather shorts are taking over both the red carpet and the streets. Largely responsible for this rather quirky trend is Alexander Wang, who served up leather shorts paired with sweats for his S/S 2010 collection. The designer has revived them again in his recent Resort 2011 collection, only this time worn with oversized knits. As part of her collaboration with Opening Ceremony, Chloe Sevingy for O.P. the actress designed leather shorts so short they should be described as hotpants. Alexa Chung has already been seen wearing black slashed YSL Bermuda shorts and Gwyneth Paltrow hit the red carpet wearing leather shorts paired with a black blazer. Proving the trend is not just a black affair, Sienna Miller was spotted in Camden donning sand coloured suede leather shorts. Who wears short shorts? We do… as long as they’re leather.”
Finding an online shop to buy something of the like was with difficulty though (hers is Alexander Wang, for those who are curious to know). I did come across a few that could pull off a similar style: Leggings by Bebe; black leather shorts by Les Nouvelles; denim shorts by Urban Excess; black button shorts by Miss Selfridge. Enjoy!

It’s getting chilly in Australia and we are all in need of something to keep us warm. Isn’t that what jackets are for? They keep in the warmth while adding a layer of complexity to your outfit. Topped with a scarf, you’re sure to be well prepared for winter.

There are some great new links posted on the Body page of this blog, but still to come are the codes to accompany your purchases. I have also decided to have a slideshow for each online boutique to sample the items they are selling. So there are still a lot more to come on this site!
If you see an item that you really want to buy, leave me a comment and I’ll try to see if I can find any discounts with that shop.
